Dental Staff

The Pearl Dentures and Dental Care staff is knowledgable and caring. Your trust and providing for your comfort is our goal. The highest levels of accreditation are maintained by our professionals and they receive ongoing education to keep up-to-date with recent advances and trends in the field.

Dr. Kathy Hubnik

Dr. Kathy Hubnik’s genuine care and concern for her patients is fully evident and she works hard to provide a relaxed atmosphere to alleviate any anxiety. Decades of practice have given her an extensive personal knowledge base, plus the skill and ability to react adeptly to any dental issue or emergency.

You may find that Dr. Hubnik whistles while she’s working. You can try and guess the tunes, but we don’t recommend you join in no matter how tempting it may be. Local anesthesia and a mouth full of dental tools would likely make that difficult, though humorous, to do.

Dr. Hubnik received her undergraduate degree from The University of Texas, Permian Basin in Midland and her Doctorate of Dental Surgery from the Baylor School of Dentistry in Dallas.

Meet The Staff

Donna Garret-Smith
Donna Garret-SmithOffice Manager
Getting to know our patients is a perk for office manager Donna Garret-Smith. In the past, she has managed practices with up to 5 dentists and 30 team members which made that difficult at best. She’ll help you understand all aspects of your appointments from procedures, to payment options and insurance benefits. Anything you need to know, just ask. With over 20 years of dental office management and consulting experience, Donna has proven to be an irreplaceable asset to the Pearl Dentures and Dental Care team

When not at the office, you might find her just down the road enjoying shopping and dining on the square as well as attending the wonderful performances at the Opera House. She also gives back to the community by serving on the board of directors of Leadership Granbury.

Donna received her BAT in Home & Consumer Economics from Sam Houston State University.

Maria Lara
Maria LaraRDA
The first voice you are likely to hear from our office is Maria’s. Her friendly and upbeat attitude will put you right at ease. She excels at keeping us and our patients organized and on track. She’s the “real boss” of the practice and wears twice the number of hats as the rest of us.

Maria is the expert when it comes to working within your budget to make treatment affordable. She will explain a variety of payment options to make sure you are able to receive the treatment you deserve.

Outside of work, Maria leads a very active life. In addition to working out, she enjoys playing volleyball and watching her two sons play in select league baseball.

Anthony Hubnik
Anthony HubnikRDA
You could call Anthony our jack of all trades. His primary role as dental assistant is where his mad laboratory skills shine. He is gifted at making temporaries, occlusal guards, whitening trays and repairing dentures. It’s no surprise though, as Dr. Hubnik’s son, Anthony essentially grew up in the dental office. Thankfully for us, he chose to pursue the same field as Mom.

Anthony is happy to fill other necessary roles that come with a smaller practice. He is also our general maintenance man and “lifter of all things heavy”. As our jokester, he helps maintain a relaxed and light-hearted mood.

Playing guitar and tending to his prolific garden are two of Anthony’s main interests outside of the office. He also enjoys home improvement projects that often include the ‘help’ of his two young sons.

Sonja Owens
Sonja OwensRDH
Sonja has a deeply personal connection to the role that dentistry can play in a patient’s self-confidence which led her to pursue it as a career. Up until 8th grade, Sonja was quick to cover her mouth when she laughed or smiled. She was extremely self-conscious of a front tooth that looked broken because it never fully descended. In 8th grade, she had cosmetic bonding to correct it.

“It made such a drastic difference in my appearance and my self-confidence that I decided then that I wanted to work in dentistry some day.”
-Sonja Owens

Sonja took the first step at age 17 when she began working in the front office and later as a dental assistant for Mitchell Walker, DDS. She decided to attend college to complete a dental hygiene degree and returned to work for Dr. Walker for the next 17 years until he retired. Sonja underwent dental work herself during that time so has a great deal of understanding and empathy from the patient perspective. She received orthodontics as well as further treatment on the front tooth. It was pulled down, the bonding removed and porcelain veneers applied to both front teeth to match color.

Sonja sees her job as a way to give back for everything she has received in her life. It’s a way to help others be healthier, more beautiful and self-confident all at the same time. She firmly believes that God was guiding her path to dentistry.

“From my smile to the desire He put in my heart, to every provision, to my employment opportunities, to the love I still have for what I do! I have always considered it a gift.”

Jamie George
Jamie GeorgeRDA
Jamie graduated from Granbury High School where she was captain of the swim team. After high school, Jamie enrolled in a nine-month Dental Assisting program. This is quite impressive as most dental assistants choose on-line courses or a six-week program. Jamie was required to do a 200-hour externship as a requirement of graduation. We were lucky enough to have her extern in our office. Upon completion, we hired Jamie as a part-time dental assistant. With the significant growth of the practice, it was an easy decision to add Jamie as a full-time member of our team.

Jamie loves the hands on and chair-side aspects of her job. Jamie has also taken on the challenge of learning some of the administrative functions in the office. Jamie is always quick to help in any area of the practice where she is needed. She loves being Dr. Hubnik’s assistant.

When not in the office, Jamie enjoys hanging out at the dog park with her dogs and her young son and playing cars and dinosaurs.
